An Evening with Syrian Artist Sara Shamma at Homs First Theater

The Turathuna Foundation is pleased to host renowned Syrian artist Sara Shamma for a special cultural evening at Homs First Theater, offering the local community an opportunity to discover her artistic journey and her recent participation in the international art scene.

Born in Damascus in 1975, Sara Shamma has built a distinguished artistic career spanning more than three decades. Her work explores the human condition through themes of memory, loss, identity, displacement, and resilience, and has been presented in major exhibitions and cultural institutions across Syria and internationally.

In 2026, Shamma represents Syria at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia through her project “The Tower Tomb of Palmyra,” presented as part of the Syrian National Pavilion. The project draws on Palmyra’s rich and multicultural history, exploring questions of cultural memory, loss, resilience, and the importance of protecting and recovering heritage.

During the evening, Sara Shamma will share insights into her artistic practice, the development of her Palmyra project, and her experience representing Syria at one of the world’s most significant international art platforms.
