Policies and Guidelines
Our Commitment to Ethical and Sustainable Practices
At the Turathuna Foundation, we believe that the preservation of physical heritage must be matched by a profound respect for the people and environments connected to it. Our operations, field missions, and community projects are guided by strict institutional frameworks designed to ensure transparency, safety, and accountability at every level.
Heritage Conservation Standards
All our restoration and preservation activities strictly adhere to recognized international standards for cultural heritage. Whether we are reinforcing ancient masonry or reviving historic public spaces, our interventions prioritize authenticity, using traditional materials and methods that respect the original character of the site while ensuring long-term structural integrity.
Environmental and Social Responsibility
We recognize the deep connection between natural and cultural heritage. To ensure our projects positively impact the local ecosystem and community, we rigorously apply Project Environmental and Social Screening (PESS) frameworks. Before any field operation or restoration project begins, we assess potential environmental impacts—such as the effects of climate change on heritage sites—and implement sustainable practices to mitigate risks and promote environmental awareness.
Health, Safety, and Security
The physical safety of our team, volunteers, and the communities we serve is our top priority. We maintain robust Health, Safety, Social, and Environmental (HSSE) protocols across all our active sites, from the ongoing management of the Orthodox Theater to our public-facing field missions like the Sun Trails project. Comprehensive hazard reporting, site assessments, and emergency preparedness are integrated into our daily operations.
Protection and Code of Conduct
Turathuna is deeply committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone involved in our programs. We enforce a strict zero-tolerance policy towards any form of misconduct. Central to our operations are comprehensive guidelines on the Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH). We ensure that all staff, partners, and volunteers are trained on these policies to actively safeguard vulnerable community members, particularly women and youth participating in our initiatives.
Community Engagement and Inclusivity
Heritage belongs to the people. Our guidelines mandate that community consultation is a prerequisite for our projects. We are dedicated to ensuring equal participation across all demographics, actively working to include marginalized voices and empowering local residents to become the primary stewards of their own cultural narratives.
