International National Trusts Organisation

The International National Trusts Organisation (INTO) serves as the coordinating hub for the global National Trust movement. While many are familiar with individual national trusts that protect historic homes and landscapes, INTO brings these organizations together to form a powerful international network of heritage practitioners.

The Core Mission

INTO was established to promote the conservation of the cultural and natural heritage of all nations. Its work is built on the belief that heritage is a universal right and a vital tool for community well-being. The organization focuses on:

  • Global Networking: Facilitating the exchange of best practices between member organizations, from established trusts with millions of members to small, emerging heritage groups.
  • Capacity Building: Helping new and existing trusts develop the professional skills needed for effective conservation, fundraising, and community engagement.
  • Global Advocacy: Representing the interests of heritage on the world stage, advocating for policies that protect the environment and cultural sites from the impacts of climate change and rapid urbanization.
  • The "National Trust" Model: Promoting a unique model of heritage management where land and buildings are held "in trust" for the benefit of the public, ensuring they are protected forever, for everyone.

A Network of Diversity

INTO’s membership is vast, representing more than 90 organizations across every continent. This diversity allows the network to address a wide range of challenges—from preserving historic urban centers in Europe to protecting biodiversity and indigenous traditions in Africa, Asia, and the Americas.

Why INTO Matters Today

In a rapidly changing world, INTO provides a collective voice for the protection of our environment and history. By focusing on sustainable tourism and climate resilience, INTO ensures that heritage remains a relevant and active part of modern life. They believe that by looking after the best of our past, we can build a more sustainable and resilient future.

Collaborative Impact

As a partner organization, INTO offers a platform for global solidarity. It allows heritage professionals to collaborate on cross-border projects, ensuring that no organization has to face the challenges of conservation alone.
