Memory of the Place

Documenting the Story… Reviving the Soul

The "Memory of the Place" project is a pioneering cultural and documentary initiative dedicated to safeguarding the historical and social legacy of our archaeological buildings. We do not view these landmarks merely as silent architectural masses, but rather as living spaces that have embraced the stories and experiences of successive generations. In its current cycle, the project focused on Homs First Theater, recognizing it as a pivotal cultural edifice that has witnessed defining historical and artistic transformations in the city's memory.

Project Methodology and Work Phases

The project was executed following a carefully structured timeline from mid-2024 through the end of 2025, anchored by the following strategic tracks:

  • Research and Investigation: Establishing direct contact with contemporaries who lived through the theater's golden era, collecting living testimonies from individuals whose memories and emotions are deeply intertwined with this space.
  • Visual Archiving: Unearthing rare, vintage photographs and meticulously restoring and reprinting them in high quality. This ensures they are protected from decay and preserved for future generations.
  • Visual and Written Documentation: Conducting in-depth video interviews with the theater's first generation. These interviews were precisely transcribed into written research material to safeguard the most intricate historical details.
  • Interactive Gatherings: Organizing a series of group dialogue sessions and activities that brought together the makers of this memory. This provided a warm, engaging space to exchange stories and recall forgotten details by actively reviving the collective memory.

Project Outcomes

The initiative culminated in the creation of a comprehensive documentary summary that beautifully encapsulates the historical and emotional value of Homs First Theater. This document now serves as a living reference, seamlessly blending historical facts with the human emotions that cemented this location as an indelible landmark in our collective memory.

We do not merely chronicle buildings; we restore dignity to the humans who gave these walls their meaning.
