Restoring the Entrance of Al-Ghassania Orthodox School

As part of our ongoing efforts to preserve the historical fabric of the Old City of Homs, the Turathuna Foundation successfully executed the restoration and rehabilitation of the entrance to the Al-Ghassania Orthodox School. This site holds immense significance as a vital component of the city's architectural and educational memory.

The location's educational legacy runs deep; it has been utilized for teaching since the early 19th century, originally functioning as an attachment to the Archbishopric (Dar Al-Matraniyah). The majestic building entrance that stands today was subsequently constructed and officially completed in 1908—a historic milestone proudly recorded by the original construction inscription still preserved above its main gate. This structure stands as an enduring testament to the city's long-standing commitment to knowledge and culture.

The restoration work involved the careful treatment and repair of damaged elements, alongside a comprehensive enhancement of the site's visual landscape. By utilizing materials and methodologies that harmonize with the original heritage character, this project actively contributes to preserving the site's urban identity. The result is a more beautiful, inspiring educational environment that fosters a deep connection to the history of the place.
